1939 Hawthorne Zep

The Hawthorne Zep was the top of the line for Montgomery Ward in 1939. Price was just $39.95 with the single speed hub. The bicycle pictured is a very high quality restoration, surpasing the quality of the original production bicycle by quite a bit. All chrome and paint is flawless…. Junior’s bike didn’t look this good in 1939! Notice that this bike has red tires with white sidewalls. These are Goodyear “G3″ Airwheel’s and are not original to the bike. The Fall and Winter 1939 catalog mentions the following features.

Fork; “Shockmaster” springer. Colors; Red with white trim or Dark blue with white trim. Tires; Riverside Cord Mate white sidewall. Rims; Lobdell chrome plated. Saddle; Rubber cushioned Troxel saddle.
